Enterprise Chat News Roundup #6

This week was a jam packed full of conference news and platform announcements in the enterprise chat space! Some of the Message.io team was on the ground in SF, so if you weren’t able to make it, be sure to catch up on the roll-up below.

1- Slack & Atlassian Conference Highlights:

  • Slack’s Shared Channels, Google Drive Integration, and Global Localization Support
  • Slack + ServiceNow Partnership
  • Atlassian Stride Product Keynote

We have full coverage details on these announcements in the two articles below:

2- Even more platform news this week- Microsoft Teams opens the door to outsiders

Before these conferences took place, Microsoft made a major announcement to their Teams platform earlier in the week. They’re rolling out a feature that allows companies to interact with guests outside of their organization.

Similar to Slacks announcement of Shared Channels, Microsoft aims to please 125,000 organizations currently using Teams by allowing guests to access features that a normal member of an organization would have access to. This includes video chat, bots, private chats, and interactive tabs.

3- Microsoft Teams set to become a Progressive Web App (PWA)

“Progressive Web App (PWA) is a term used to denote a new software development methodology. PWAs are a hybrid of regular web pages (or websites) and a mobile application. This new application model attempts to combine features offered by most modern browsers with the benefits of mobile experience.”

At a different conference in Seattle, the Microsoft Web Platform team announced that the Microsoft Teams app was being transitioned to a Progressive Web App. This means the Microsoft Teams app would become one of the first PWA’s to hit the Windows Store. PWA support is set to hit sometime in October, but hopefully this means their enterprise chat platform can continue to see growth!
